SHARK FINNING is the barbaric practice of hacking off the shark’s fins and throwing its still living body back into the sea. The shark is often alive during the procedure and once the fins are obtained, they are tossed back where they are either eaten by other fish, drown, or sink to the ocean bottom to slowly die. Shark fins are “needed” because it is an Asian “delicacy,” which is called Shark Fin Soup. It is harvested in even greater numbers to feed the growing demand for the delicacy in Asia.

More than 26-73 million sharks are killed each year worldwide. This inhumane act happens everywhere on every coast on this Earth. But as of this year, it is banned in United States, Canada, Europe, Brazil, and South Africa (Hawaii has banned the sell of shark fins.) Researchers have commented that at the rate of killing these majestic creatures, the human race will wipe them out in less than 10 years.
